Nagrań dokonano w tym samym czasie, kiedy kręcono film 200 Motels (premiera w roku 1971), którego Zappa był współreżyserem (poza Mothers Of Invention występował tam m.in. Ringo Starr). Materiał na albumie zawiera fragmenty rozmów między członkami zespołu w czasie tournee, stąd tak duża liczba utworów.
