I was frantic with excitement when I finally found 1-minute audio samples for this album. For quite a long time I was searching what felt like nearly ever corner of the internet for the audio samples. To my surprise, I found the perfect page by simply entering "World Wide Message Tribe, Dance Planet" in google.com ("Dance Planet" is WWMT's second album that obviously releases after this one). I hadn't been so excited for quite a long time! It feels a bit strange to go back to the official beginning of WWMT. It's funny to think that before they were an official recording group, it was just Andy Hawthorne and Mark Pennells doing school ministry in the 80's, until Elaine Hanley and Lorraine Johnson joined them a few years later right before this album. I guess I never thought of them being around for so long. Finally, let me review the songs...

Maximum Level: This is just plain fun! It's one of those songs that you can't listen to without dancing. It's a perfect opening for the album. Simple, but fun. The only thing that bothers me is the banjo in the intro ;-D

Return Of The Queen Of Sheba: From WWMT's producer Zarc Porter..."The rave scene was crossing over into the mainstream during this period and we did "The Return Of The Queen Of Sheba", which was essentially Handel's "The Arrival Of The Queen Of Sheba" over a rave track so that the guys could use it as an intro to the Friday night concerts in schools."...anyway, this is an absolutely AWESOME song. It's different and that's what makes it so fun!

Who Do You Love?: Very awesome song! I love that perfect "space-techno" style it has. I love the way it sounds when Elaine is repeating "Everything you see will go, everything you see" with some red hot vocals! Cool synth, too!

Make It Happen: Good, soulful 90's stuff! It sounded so familiar the first time I listened to it. I'm not sure, but I just may have heard it a long time ago when it came out in 93. I'm pretty sure this isn't a totally frantic song. It's very pleasant and nice sounding. Mark's vocals are just wonderful.

Revival: The very first professional song WWMT ever recorded, I think. Very fun song! I didn't like it at first, but I got used to it, and I love it now! I love the part where they shout the main line; "Can you feel it? (Revival!) Can you dig it? (Revival!)". A comment from Zarc Porter..."Andy came in one day and said we've got to do a track about the Hebredian Revival and make it our prayer for Manchester. I started to work on this kind of raga/rave groove (which was current in the clubs at that time) and it gradually turned into the track "Revival". It was during the recording of Andy's rap on this track that he earned his nickname "The Heavyfoot". Whenever he recorded his raps he would bang his foot really loudly on the floor thus making unfortunate loud booming sounds go up into the mic. In the end we put a big squashy cushion under his foot, but we never quite got rid of the problem completely"...I had to keep the "Heavyfoot" thing in for a bit of laugh.

3-16: The intro does start out a little odd, making you think the song will turn out hypnotic and weird, but then it breaks into a great groove with some awesome piano. Very fun!

It's A Short Life: So many people have said how terrible they think this song is. There were elements of it that were slightly unfortunate, although I must say the duck-quacking loop in the intro was the worst that happened. The song has a rather funny sound compared to all other WWMT songs, since it's something very young children would be more quick to enjoy. Takes some getting used to, but it has a pleasant sound. I've turned out to enjoy it myself, especially because Mark's vocals are hard not to like! A little comment from Zarc Porter..."we did do some absolute clangers on this album, for example, the song "It's A Short Life" should have had an even shorter life and never existed!"...if I've ever disagreed with Zarc on anything, it's just that comment! ;-D

When The Sun Goes Down: This is a very awesome song! It has a hot piano and slick vocals from Mark. Very fun stuff! I love the tune. Very memorable.

The Cross: This is a slow, but very beautiful song. Mark's vocals sound smooth and beautiful. The lyrics are simple, but they're very moving. Highly recommended. A last from Zarc Porter..."We quickly found that during the concerts with so many 140 BPM tracks and everyone frantically leaping around for the entire show, we really needed a song to bring the kids down in preparation for the preach. We wrote the song "The Cross" and included an instrumental middle section based on Debussy's "Claire De Lune" so that the guys could talk or pray over it in the concerts. A few months later almost by accident, this album got a deal in the States with N-Soul Records, the company owned at the time by deejay Scott Blackwell and the only Christian company releasing dance-orientated music. "The Cross" became our first US CCM radio hit (although at the time we didn't have a clue what that meant)".
