Wnętrza / Interiors (1978): Interiors marked a cinematic watershed for Woody Allen. In his first serious drama, Allen's interest in the human condition was not purely farcical and not limited to quick-wit and slapstick gags.

When Eve (Geraldine Page), an interior designer, is deserted by her husband of many years, Arthur (E.G. Marshall), the emotionally glacial relationships of their three grown daughters are laid bare. Twisted by jealousy, insecurity and resentment, Renata (Diane Keaton), a successful writer; Flyn (Kristin Griffith), a woman crippled by indecision; and Joey (Mary Beth Hurt), a budding actress; struggle to communicate for the sake of their shattered mother. But when their father unexpectedly falls for another woman (Maureen Stapleton), his decision to remarry sets in motion a terrible twist of fate with tragically unexpected consequences...

Manhattan (1979): Isaac Davis is a TV writer; sick of the junk he is forced to crank out he harbors dreams of being a famous novelist. His love life is in a shambles: he is tormented by his ex-wife Jill (Meryl Streep), a lesbian who has written a tell-all book about their marriage, and he is dating a teenager Tracy (Mariel Hemmingway) who is disenchanted with his putdowns and refusal to commit. Isaac's best friend Yale (Michael Murphy) has begun an affair with his friend Mary (Diane Keaton). Like Isaac, who can't figure out how to begin the first sentence of his novel, Yale struggles through his lack of resolve, as shown by his inability to leave his wife Emily (Anne Byrne). Seks nocy letniej / A Midsummer's Night's Sex Comedy (1982): At a beautiful farmhouse in upstate New York, wealthy Andrew passes his summer days tinkering as a hack inventor and attempting to make love with his frigid wife, Adrian. Then Leopold, a self-possessed scholar, and his future wife, the highly sexed Ariel, come for a visit. The second couple in the mix is Maxwell, a doctor, and his current girlfriend, Dulcy, a nurse who advises Adrian on her sex life. It turns out that Andrew once had an innocent romance with Ariel, but he's one of the very few men she has met and not slept with. Now Andrew is very much interested in Ariel again and she in him. And thus begins this whimsical farce of lust, love, and longing among friends.

Zelig (1983): Woody Allen's comic pseudo-documentary about a fictional 1920s media sensation named Leonard Zelig, a human chameleon who develops the ability to takes on the characteristics of anyone he happens to be with at the time. A gentle jab at America's obsession with fame and celebrity, as well as a parody of the documentary form, Zelig uses an updated version of the fake newsreel technique from Citizen Kane to depict its hero magically at the side of almost every major personality of the early 20th century, from Eugene O'Neill to Adolf Hitler. Enriched by "commentary" from a variety of contemporary intellectuals including Irving Howe, Susan Sontag, and Bruno Bettelheim, the documentary traces Zelig's bizarre career as a tabloid hero and side-show freak who finds true compassion only in the arms of his psychiatrist, the renowned Dr. Eudora Fletcher.

Broadway Danny Rose (1984): Danny Rose is a talent agent who handles some of the largest no-talents in the business. His one client with any hope of real succes is a has-been lounge singer whose career is headed for an upswing due to the recent nostalgia craze. But there's a problem - his married client is involved with another woman who's involved with the mob.
