Reggae, Dub
Trojan Records to jedna z najbardziej znanych i cenionych brytyjskich wytwórni,
szeroko pojętej muzyki jamajskiej. Została założona w 1968 przez Lee Gopthala. Nazwa
pochodzi od ciężarówki znanego jamajskiego producenta muzycznego, Duke Reida,
na której widniał napis The Trojan King of Sounds. Początkowo, label ten, był jedynie
siostrą Island Records (wydawca Boba Marleya) przez co nigdy nie promował nowych
artystów. Miało to ogromny wpływ na jego późniejszy charakter. W 1972
współpraca z wytwórnią Chrisa Blackwella dobiega końca.
Sukces Trojan Records przyniosła współpraca z producentami z Jamajki. To głownie
oni stoją za legendarną kompilacją Trojan Box Set. Do tej pory wydano 69 takich realesów.
Daje to w sumie 3436 utworów. 3103 piosenki pojawiły się tylko raz, reszta 333 co najmniej
dwa razy. Na składankach znajduje się 941 różnych artystów, spośród których najwięcej
tunów mają: John Holt i The Upsetters, po 52 utwory. Dalej, Dennis Brown i Gregory
Isaacs po 40 kawałków. 383 producentów ma tu swoje numery. Najwięcej wyprodukował
Bunny Lee – 358 piosenek, potem Duke Reid – 245, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry – 228. Razem
cała trójka odpowiada za wypuszczenie prawie 188 wszystkich kawałków. Najczęściej
reprezentowanym stylem muzycznym jest, oczywiście, reggae i dub (76.48%
utworów), dalej Rocksteady (9.43%), Ska (5.88%), Jamaican R&B (3.87%).
