Born in the heartland of the Indus Valley civilization, Naseem Akhtar Said saw ancient archaeological sites, mediaeval citadels and monuments dotting every nook and cranny of the provincial landscape of the Punjab, whose large swathes of lush green fields are rather famous for being the food basket of the populous region. Realising this largely ignored aspect of her avaunt heritage, she nurtured a passion for documenting the architectural decoration of this rapidly declining material culture. She travelled across the globe in pursuit of learning the arcane minutiae of her research field from the maestros of the discipline, before settling in Lahore to disseminate the fruits of her study to the young girls, aspiring to become historians, academicians and docents. This book is a compilation of her forty years of illuminating research and insightful study in a previously lesser known field, which has now been beautifully brought forth, inviting a gaze of appreciation.
