The Best Work of the Post-Soviet period,
It was hard for meto write this reviewwithout mentioningBeethoven or Shostakovich. Boris Tishchenko, here haswritten a symphony as joyfulas Beethoven's seventh; but in the vein of his teacher,Dmitri Shostakovich. The opening of the worksas ironic as the opening ofShostakovich's 9th symphony. The piano and xylophone solos, bring to mind the ballet-suitesof Shostakovich. Also in the second movement the solo for tom-toms bringsto mind the solo for that instrumentin Shostakovich's 14th symphony. The general mood of the work is joyfuland sentimental, which make it sodiferent to many of the post-soviet works of our age. This is theworld premiere recording ofthe work and it was recorded liveat the legendary great hallof the Moscow Conservatory, in2002. Dmitri Yablonsky and theMoscovites do a wonderful work... My favorite work of the post-soviet period!!!!! Well, done Mr. Tishchenko...
