'ParCITYpate' is a departure for artists, curators and innovative minds in the urban and spatial realms far from the beaten path of art theory and urban developmental or urban political dialogue. Drawing on current examples, new vantage points on the effect and feel of artistic works in urban space that are often temporary and ephemeral are brought to discussion. Beyond the praise or criticism of participative urban development processes, artistic interventions take part in the production of city space by opening new possibilities for urban action. 'ParCITYpate' is directed to those with interests in art as well as urban development. In that regard the book collates the perspectives of international renowned urban researchers and social scientists with the positions and vantage points of artists, art theorists and curators. In addition, jointly authored articles bring together these previously separately conducted dialogues. On the basis of contemporary artistic positions and new insights from the social sciences the effects of such interventions on urban culture, development, economics and politics are discussed.
