Opis albumu

The present CD features a series of pieces performed by the "Viennese quintet", an ensemble consisting of two violins, viola, cello and double bass. Among them, only a few (such as the Annen-Polka and the Neue Pizzicato-Polka) are well-known compositions by the "Waltz King": and yet one is immediately aware of the fine quality of all these pieces, the fruit of a musical culture that was able to transform into an art form what, for centuries, had been a simple background to dance. The Wiener Streichquintett interprets them a beautifully, recreating the atmosphere of late 19th-century Vienna.
