Shoah" trwa dziewięć i pół godziny. Wspaniały dokumentalista Claude Lanzmann przygotowywał go aż 11 lat, z czego sam montaż zabrał mu pięć lat. Fachowcy uznają "Shoah" za jeden z najważniejszych filmów XX wieku. W obrazie nie ma ani jednego zdjęcia archiwalnego, żadnej fotografii, czy nawet kadru z kronik niemieckich tamtych czasów. Mówią do nas ocaleni, świadkowie, oprawcy... I mówią krajobrazy, miejsca niepamięci - las, pole, szyny kolejowe. Zaskakujące że tematem filmu nie jest to, jak bohaterom udał się przeżyć, uciec, kto im pomógł. Żywi interesują reżysera, jako świadkowie śmierci..
Genialny film...mimo, że trwa 9 godzin ani przez chwilę nie doznałem znużenia. Interesujący przede wszystkim dlatego, że paradoksalnie jest tak mało dokumentalny tzn. że nie ma tam żadnych materiałów archiwalnych. Obraz współczesnego Auschwitz i Treblinki oraz towarzyszący temu komentarz zza kadru robi wstrząsające wrażenie. Nie jest to film, który poszerza naszą wiedzę o Holokauście w sensie merytorycznym, nie jest to dokument popularnonaukowy bo też i nie o to chodziło. Przez to jest bardziej sugestywny, odwołujący się do ludzkich sumień, a nie będący jedynie suchym wykładem historycznym. Nie odniosłem wrażenia, że jest to obraz antypolski...pokazane są tutaj również postawy szlachetne, a sam Claude Lanzmann nie atakuje z dziką furią Polaków.
