From the liner notes, it can be extrapolated that the 32-minute raga (simply called "Raga") that comprises the whole of this album was recorded in 1964. That would make it quite ahead of its time, considering that few if any musicians were performing ragas with anything resembling rock instrumentation at this point. Actually, the rock influence is light, and more in attitude than sound; James Rock plays an electric bass, and there's a loose, jam-like ambience that likely borrows from jazz as much as, or more than, it does from rock. It's a rather meandering piece with wordless vocals that's more interesting as an artifact than it is as music. ~ Richie UnterbergerOne of the first bands - if not the first - to bring Indian raga into a rock context, the Seventh Sons may not be the sole inventors of the so-called "raga rock" fusion, but they are undoubtedly one of its earliest pioneers.
