Książka o charakterze albumowym poświęcona rozwojowi konstrukcji samochodów osobowych na świecie na przestrzeni XX wieku, z uwzględnieniem czasów wcześniejszych. Zawartość podzielono systematycznie na epoki zgodnie z międzynarodowymi uregulowaniami FIVA (organizacji zajmującej się pojazdami zabytkowymi). Opisano zmiany w koncepcji samochodu osobowego, podano pierwsze zastosowania poszczególnych podzespołów i rozwiązań technicznych, ewolucję stylizacji nadwozi, postęp technologiczny. Uwzględniono zarówno pojazdy seryjne, jak i prototypowe oraz studialne. Odnotowano polski wkład w rozwój motoryzacji.
Książkę ilustrują czarno-białe i barwne fotografie obrazujące przykłady najbardziej reprezentatywnych pojazdów i rozwiązań. W tablicach zgromadzono dane techniczne wybranych samochodów.
This time the author of this publication, the famous historian of Polish motoring, describes the technical evolution of the motor car, beginning from the first attempts to build "a horseless vehicle" through its childhood adventures and adolescence twists and turns up to its mature years. First of all he focuses on the technical solutions, describing those that - although in an altered form - have served us to this day as well as the ideas forgotten, sometimes undeservedly, a long time ago. He analyses in detail the car models recognised as the milestones of the history of motoring, illustrating his dissertation with more than five hundred photos and drawings, in the big part in colour. The indexes and technical data tables allow fast retrieval of the necessary information. The final dividing line of the book is the year 2000, the end of the century, aptly called "the car age".
In Polish literature, this is the first truly thorough analysis of the technical development of the motor cars and their major assemblies, which diligently systemises the knowledge of solutions used in the construction of these vehicles over the years.Der Autor dieser Publikation, ein bekannter Historiker aus der polnischen Automobilbranche, beschreibt diesmal die technische Entwicklung des Personenkraftwagens von den ersten Versuchen, einen "Wagen ohne Pferde" zu bauen uber Abenteuer aus seiner Kindheit und Pubertat bis zum Erwachsenenalter. Er konzentriert sich vor allem auf technische Losungen und beschreibt sowohl diejenigen Konzepte, die bis heute - obwohl in modifizierter Form angewandt werden, als auch jene, die langst - manchmal unverdient - in Vergessenheit geraten sind. Ausfuhrlich analysiert werden Pkw-Modelle, die als Meilensteine der Automobilgeschichte gelten. Seine Erorterungen illustrieren uber funfhundert, zum grossen Teil farbige Bilder und Zeichnungen. Stichwortverzeichnisse und Tabellen mit technischen Daten erleichtern die Suche nach den erforderlichen Informationen. Die Endzasur des Buches ist das Jahr 2000, das letzte Jahr des zu Recht als "Automobilzeitalter" bezeichneten Jahrhunderts.
