On the subject of orchestral pyrotechnics, the fire and contrast of Russian composers cannot be surpassed in program material. The influence of geography and romantic history as inspirational sources of music are not to be discounted because of contemporary conflicts and political disagreements. All Russian composers accepted in Western world programing today evince emotional qualities born of the conscious (or unconscious) awareness of living in a land of stark truths threaded with misery, splendor and the extremes of human reactions.
The familiar music of RUSSIA is painted on a canvas of melodic texture in warm colors — and always hung in a dynamic frame.
In this program of Russian Fireworks, we have not attempted to present a program of our Composer's Concept; rather, this is a romantic impression of old Russia as seen through the pens of music arrangers born a considerable time after the revolution of 1917.
