Originally airing on Britain's ITV beginning in 1984, Robin of Sherwood (retitled Robin Hood for U.S. TV audiences) is yet another fiction based on tales of the English folk hero, known in modern times as a dashing brigand who robs from the rich and gives to the poor. This series, starring Dynasty's Michael Praed as the rogue archer, is unique in its use of mysticism and the supernatural within the story lines. For example, in the pilot, "Robin Hood and the Sorcerer," we discover that Robin of Loxley has been chosen by Herne the Hunter, the pagan god of Sherwood Forest, to assume the mantle of protector for the downtrodden. A strong supporting cast, including Nickolas Grace as the Sheriff of Nottingham, Robert Addie as Sir Guy of Gisburne, Clive Mantle as Little John, and Judi Trott as Lady Marion further adds to the strength of the series. The music, by Irish ensemble Clannad, earned the British Academy Award for best soundtrack in 1985. This set collects all 13 episodes from the show's first and second series, and includes extras such as commentaries on selected episodes, two documentaries, outtakes, and a featurette.
