Opis	Preface The complexity of foreign language acquisition, as well as the teaching - learning pro­cess, is and can best be analysed by different studies performed on its various aspects. For the purposes of academic discussions these processes are either cut to pieces and examined in detail, or just the opposite: observed as a whole in order to register their general regula­rities and tendencies. It is quite obvious that our knowledge in these matters increases through research. This volume has been prepared with the intention of making the reader acquainted with problems that need investigation and with the plans of future research. Its first part includes papers devoted to the former, whereas the second one deals with the latter. Section one of the first part presents particular ideas to which, according to the authors of the papers, deeper studies ought to be devoted. Section two offers us texts describing con­crete plans of research, the aims of which are to answer the question that their authors consider crucial. These questions are frequently connected with the acquisition ofFL lexi­cal systems. Papers included in section three present the results of studies devoted to what the lear­ners do with the language that they acquire, e. g. how they process the spoken/written texts and what kind of errors they make. This section also consists of texts examining phenomena indirectly connected with the acquisition process. Examples of these are classroom proce­dures or learning styles. Although such problems are not strictly connected with language acquisition as such they form the sine qua non of its successful accomplishment. We hope that all these papers will contribute to the development of the perspectives of more expe­rienced researchers and encourage less experienced ones to conceive, and design ambitious and original projects. Janusz Arabski   W książce poruszono wiele istotnych problemów z zakresu glottodydaktyki, wśród których można wymienić następujące: percepcja pojęcia twarz w języku polskim i face w języku angielskim za pomocą introspekcji; dobór odpowiedniej metody badawczej dotyczącej systemów języka ojczystego i docelowego osób bilingwalnych; analiza pojęć eferentnego i estetycznego w aspekcie dydaktyki języków obcych; rozwijanie sprawności pisania; rola kultury języka docelowego w procesie nauczania języka obcego w szkole średniej; poprzeczne badania stanu wiedzy uczniów w zakresie słownictwa obcojęzycznego; określanie obszarów kompetencji i niekompetencji nauczycieli języków obcych; nastawienie uczniów do wybranych kultur narodów Europy.
