Pure melodic rock ear candy. That's a simple description of Prime Suspect, a band formed from the core of melodic rockers Khymera which includes Daniele Liverani (k), Tommy Ermolli (g) and Dario Ciccioni (b). Their self-titled debut on Frontiers Records (Italy) could be considered Khymera 2.0. Therefore, if you dig Khymera, you'll love Prime Suspect.

However, there are some wild cards here. The first is not unknown, namely guitarist Tommy Ermolli. Mr. Ermolli proves his versatility here adding significant sizzle and virtuosity to the benign venue of melodic AOR rock. The second wild card may be more clandestine. Vocalist Olaf Senkbeil is from German melodic progressive metal band Dreamtide, and he is a perfect fit for Prime Suspect's smooth melodic rock. PR material pushes the obvious Khymera heritage but also the lineage of Last Autumn's Dream, and Prime Suspect is not far off. Actually, they're spot on for European (and American) melodic AOR rock circa mid Seventies to mid Eighties. And there's nothing wrong with that whatsoever. But does Prime Suspect offer something new? Not really. But do they get it? Absolutely. You would be hard pressed to fine a better representation of classic melodic rock than Prime Suspect's debut. Very recommended.
