Walk 1: Badger Dingle Distance: 3.5 miles (5.6km) Height Gain: 360 feet (110m) Approx Time: 2 hours Route Terrain: Lanes and field paths, muddy in places Parking: Limited pace on Church Lane, or limited verge-side parking between Start and A. Picturesque Badger village, all thatched cottages and village ponds, stands above a deep gorge scoured through sandstone by the Snowdon Brook; once a popular day-trip from neighbouring towns. This walk meanders along lanes and tracks to pick up a route through the secluded Worge Valley, where ancient oaks recall fromer park and woodland. Church Lane is narrow, so park tight-in outside the church, St Giles' stands beside one of the village ponds and has some impressive memorials within to local families. One such is to the Georgian iron and steel magnate Isaac Hawkins Browne; is was he who owned Badger Hall and who paid for the improvement of Badger Dingle, visited at the end of the walk. Return to the open end of Church Lane and turn right. The quiet lane threads through rich farmland dotted with old boundary oaks; in 1/2 mile pass by Badger Farm and remain on the lane to the next cottage on the left.
