Opis:
Rewelacyjny film Nicholasa Roega (który jest również autorem zdjęć). Akcja dzieje się w Australii. Dwójka dzieci, mały chłopczyk i starsza, gdzieś pod 18stkę dziewczyna wyruszają z ojcem na pustynie urządzić piknik. W pewnym momencie ojciec podpala samochód i strzela sobie w łeb. Rodzeństwo z dala od cywilizacji próbuje przeżyć, przemierzając bezdroża. Mają szczęście gdyż spotykają młodego Aborygena, który wyruszył na samotną wędrówkę (tytułowe "walkabout"). Mimo braku wspólnego języka zaprzyjaźniają się z nim. W dzieciach zachodzą coraz większe zmiany. Zaczynają przejmowac dziki styl życia, zapominając o cywilizowanym świecie. Świetna muzyka Johna Barry i perfekcyjne zdjęcia (Roeg) to wielkie atuty tego filmu. What more can I add to the other reviews of Nic Roeg's spellbinding,unforgettable and cryptic movie? The multitude of memorable visual moments and set pieces are its appeal. When their father inexplicably tries to shoot them and then kills himself, two youngsters are stranded in the Australian Outback, where they are rescued on the brink of starvation by a lone aboriginal boy.(David Gumpilil) Together, they begin the long, arduous trek back to civilisation.
It is the combination of sumptous cinematography of a beautiful and frightening landscape, a fantastic score by John Barry (probably his best ever) and Roeg's portrayal of the touching, complicated and ultimately tragic relationship that builds between the protagonists, that makes this work so effective. Jenny Agutter, in a role infinately more faceted and mature than in 'The Railway Children' (which this incidently predates by a number of months) has most of the infrequent dialogue and carries the story along superbly, but it's the final scene, a memory, a flashback to something that may or may not have happened, that stays with you long, long after the final credits have rolled.
As the title suggests, Walkabout is a journey not only in distance, but also in the transition for one Australian aborigine, from adolescence to manhood.
While on a family picnic a beautiful teenager and her brother suddenly find themselves very much alone after the tragic death of their father. As they wander through the outback they meet the young aborigine. The film unfolds and tells the tale of survival, resourcefulness and sexual awareness, as the travellers become lost in the Australian wilderness.
