Chris Carter's apocalyptic series adds The X-Files veterans Glen Morgan and James Wong as executive producers for the 1997-98 run; as authors of 11 Season 2 episodes, they bring an even more foreboding tone to Millennium. The Season 2 opener, "The Beginning and the End," picks up after the Season 1 finale: After a trip to visit his in-laws, Frank Black (Lance Henriksen) is horrified to discover that his wife, Catherine (Megan Gallagher), has vanished from the airport. After Frank rescues her and takes violent revenge on Polaroid Man (Doug Hutchison) -- the ominous character who stalked Black's family in Season 1 -- his life changes. He decides to leave Catherine and daughter Jordan (Brittany Tiplady) and resume consulting for the Millennium Group full-time. Season 2 also finds actor Terry O'Quinn playing a larger role, as Millennium member Peter Watts, and introduces Kristen Cloke as Blacks associate, Lara Means, a paranormal researcher who can see angels. Cloke stands out in some of the better episodes: "19:19," in which Black and Means search for a busload of missing children; "Monster," wherein the two meet for the first time and hunt for a possible child abuser in a daycare center; and "Goodbye, Charlie," an episode that features the investigation of a man who appears to be responsible for a number of mercy killings. Frank becomes privy to more information about the secretive Millennium Group in episodes such as: "Beware of the Dog," wherein he meets an old man (R. G. Armstrong) who holds secrets to the Group's past; "The Hand of Saint Sebastian," in which Frank and Peter head to Germany to recover a holy relic; and "Owls" and "Roosters," a two-part episode that reveals another player besides the Group in the upcoming millennium. Guest stars this season include Charles Nelson Reilly, reprising his character Jose Chung from The X-Files, in "Jose Chung's Doomsday Defense," and Darren McGavin, who plays Black's father in "Midnight of the Century." Season 2 ends on a dark, haunting note with "The Fourth Horseman" and "The Time Is Now," a two-parter in which a deadly plague begins to spread throughout the U.S. Black learns he has been vaccinated, thanks to the Millennium Group -- but that Catherine and Jordan have not.
