Meridian 505
The Meridian 505 Mono Power Amplifier has been designed to cater for two
separate requirements: clarity and response, and it takes both of these in its
stride.
The 505 can be used with the 502 or 501 preamps, or with the 568 Surround
Controller. It matches perfectly with the 557 for centre-channel applications. For
for the complete theatre approach 505 can be used in multiple sets.
The Meridian 505 houses one powerful amplifier in its mono construction.
Rated at 160W into 8 ohms, the over-specified output stage uses 6 high-power
transistors. These, combined with a massive low-noise 800VA toroidal
transformer, permit this amplifier to deliver currents in excess of 25A, ensuring
no loss of performance even into loads that dip below 2 ohms. The massive
power delivery of this amplifier makes it ideal for driving difficult loudspeaker
loads.
The topology of 505 is very much in the Meridian tradition. A high-precision, fast,
DC-precise input stage is combined with fully complementary amplification and
output stage. The 505 also uses Meridian’s well tried self-adjusting bias and
error-correction output circuitry.
