The Martina Franca Valle D’Itria Festival has rediscovered a longneclected opera which belongs to the school of Italian Verismo.
- The libretto was written in French by Paul Berel.
- The plot is about the rivalry between two brothers who find themselves one against the other for the love of Amica. This impossible love triangle will lead to a tragic ending.
- Mascagni was an eclectic, experimental and contradictory composer which had conceived this opera as a blend of old and new elements: something in between Cavalleria Rusticana and Amico Fritz at Wagner’s way.
- World Premiere Recording
- This is a very rare opera which had never been performed in modern times in the original version with the French libretto.
- In October 2008, Amica was performed at the Rome Opera Theatre.
- First performed at the Monte Carlo Opera Theatre in 1905, the title role was played by Geraldine Farrar, star of the New York Metropolitan, and future Carmen for movie director Cecil B. De Mille. | |
