T-Zip

T-Zip is one of the most practical ways of zipping off pants. The system is based on two zips in the shape of a “T”: One, which runs round the leg and the other, which runs from the hem to the first zip. In this way, pants can be shortened in just two simple moves, without having to struggle to get the detached piece over your footwear.

Contour-cut knee/sleeves

For optimum wearer comfort the models are equipped with contoured elbows, which positively accommodate the sport specific movements of the wearer.

Supplex

Supplex® feels as soft and supple as cotton, but has the durability and strength of nylon. The material is very light, yet hard-wearing and breathable, with high humidity exchange and it is easy-care. For this reason it is mainly used in active sports clothing and outdoor textiles. The Supplex used by maier sports is also rapid drying and anti-bacterial.

Teflon

The name comes from the material Tetrafluoraethylin, abbreviated to Te-fl-o-n. Teflon is one of the most durable stain and dirt repellent products currently available on the market. When a fabric is treated with Teflon®, tiny Teflon® particles are deposited on each fibre forming a molecular barrier. Figuratively speaking, try to imagine a number of brush hairs made from fluorocarbon polymers, which are wrapped around each fibre. In this way, the surface area of the material is markedly increased. Liquids such as water and oil, which have the same or greater surface tension, bead up and run off the fabric surface to a certain extent. If the material gets really dirty, stains are also more easily washed away. Teflon® treated products are easy-care. These characteristics have made Teflon® especially popular in the outdoors market.

antismell (odour)

Bad odours are produced by bacteria. Special treatment on the material means that bacteria build-up is minimized and with it, so are odours. The effects are the same even after extensive use.

breathability

More accurately: Steam permeability. Because materials which breathe possess the ability to release steam. Our body must have a constant core temperature of about 37°C. If the temperature rises higher, the surplus warmth is discarded - which occurs through perspiration (steam). If perspiration remains too long in clothing, it can induce undercooling. Thus the steam permeability rating (breathability) of the clothing is critical. The higher the breathability, mostly stated in MVTR (Moisture-Vapor-Transmission-Rate) (g/m2/24h), the more steam (in grams) can be discarded on one square metre of surface in 24 hours.

easy care

Fabrics that are easily washed (e.g. at 30°C) and need little or no ironing are described as “easy care”. These are characteristics which are common to most synthetic fabrics. They are easy to wash and regain their original shape while drying, which in turn saves you lots of work.

dirt repellent

Fabrics become dirt repellent when each fibre is coated with an invisible protective layer at a molecular level. This means that hardly any water penetrates the fibres and dirt stands even less of a chance. If clothes are soiled, washing them cleans them quickly.

quick drying

Quick drying fibres are man-made micro-fibres, usually polyamide or polyester. The reason these materials are quick drying is that they can only absorb a certain amount of their own weight in water – x 0.8 in the case of polyester and x 3.5 in the case of polyamide. Cotton, by contrast, can absorb up to 20 times of its own weight in moisture and therefore takes a long time to dry. This function prevents the active wearer from feeling cold due to moisture evaporation and thus maintains a comfortable constant temperature.

durable

Materials or fabrics become durable when, for example,
  • they are tightly woven,
  • when they are made from thicker fibres or
  • when the fibres are specially treated or
  • when there is a higher concentration of fibres.
Durable materials are especially useful when it comes to the outdoors since that is when they are most needed.

UV protection

Harmful UV radiation is a trigger for skin diseases and premature skin ageing. maier sports is therefore advocating the use of Supplex UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) material in its active sports range, which guarantees almost 98% protection from the sun. Thus harmful rays cannot force their way through the clothing, and damage to the skin cells - even with hours of sport in the blazing sun - is almost impossible. The new feature in this field is that the protection is not achieved through chemical processes, but through a special crimping of the yarn, producing additional thickness in the material - thus guaranteeing optimum skin tolerance. A further advantage of this technique is that even after frequent washing the material does not lose its UV protecting qualities.
