Wykorzystali programowalne układy logiczne FPGA do implementacji filtrów o minimalnych zniekształceniach fazowych i tzw. "pre-echo".

Wyjściowy stopień analogowy w klasie A

Young is a high performance, very high value-for-money D/A converter capable of handling up to 384kHz sampling rate and 32 bits resolution (USB input). It features a high speed asynchronous USB input based on the hiFace technology, further developped to allow for higher sampling rates. A comprehensive input set (S/PDIF on RCA and BNC, AES/EBU on XLR and optical on Toslink) provide great connection versatility.

Despite its price, Young encopasses a leading edge technology for data handling and processing. A high performance oversampling filter, custom-made on a programmable logic device (FPGA) implements minimum-phase filters optimized for sound quality which allow for a very low noise floor. A 32 bits -D/A integrated circuit is used in a non-conventional mode to allow for 768kHz internal operation. The synergy between the DAC IC and the custoim oversampler allows for exceptionally low noise floor and THD.

The output buffer uses a special operational amplifier with very low noise and THD thanks to its class-A biased output stage. The small size and stylish look of the Young allow for a uninvasive placement in every living space.

RECENZJE

"High-end is as high-end does

The first thing to make clear is that the sound is certainly of high-end breeding. It's actually exceptionally revealing and brought out details we had forgotten about in some of our own recordings – things we remembered from the recording session but hadn't heard in a while via more prosaic replay equipment.

A concrete example may help illustrate this. One recording we've used a few times with high-res kit is of two voices and piano, a technically fine minimalist recording which sadly we can't recommend as it never got issued commercially.

At one point the singers change places in front of the piano, one moving forward and to the right as the other joins in. On most systems this is audible if one listens out for it, but just occasionally a system will show it up sufficiently clearly that it really captures the attention, as was in fact intended at the time.

With excellent amps and speakers in its train, the M2Tech DAC had no trouble at all pointing up this little bit of choreography, but at the same time kept the piano stable and the tonal nature of each voice unaltered"

Young DAC Revelation!

I know I'm just a few years behind the times on moving to computer-based audio, but I've only just bitten the bullet and switched over to the Young DAC to replace my old Naim CDP3.5 ... got it working just now ... OMG - I have new hi-fi! It's wonderful - a total revelation! So worth the wait. Now realise how weak the 3.5 was.

Feeding through into a NAC72/821A's with a TPX-1, 2 x Avondale M130s, Ruark Crusader II's.

A very very happy man!

-------------------------

It really is jolly good, isn't it! I have just spent some time evaluating Dacs and have compared the Young, Audiolab CDQ and Rega DAC in my system.

The Audiolab is great and has amazing functionality for the price. As a CD player it is outstanding for the money: I think it is at least the equal of the Naim CDX2 I used to own, which, when you think about everything else it can do- its superb digital pre-amplifier, fully balanced output, etc. - makes it a pretty compelling option.

The Rega has been very well received and I am in the minority with my experience. Perhaps it is just my system, but I was very underwhelmed. My wife listened carefully for about 5 minutes and announced that she couldn't live with it! I tried it through USB, Optical out from a macbook pro and fed optically from the cd transport of the CDQ.

To my ears it sounded a bit unnatural in its presentation - Big, but it makes everything sound big! It seems to plump up the mid-bass, the mid is a little recessed and the treble soft. I think this is what makes it sound full and warm - which it does, but after a minute or two I felt I wasn't getting the full picture, and after an hour I was bored of it.

Obviously that is just my opinion, and it could be that it's wrong in my system. I definitely think that it has a particular way of playing music that is quite different from other dacs that I've heard, and I can well understand that others' may love it.

The Young, however, is simply brilliant! From the moment I plugged it in everything just sounded right: balanced, detailed, rhythmic and spacious. Better through its USB input than the CDQ is through its CD transport ( not night and day better, but a good bit nonetheless). Play some well recorded and mastered 24 bit 192 music through it and it gets even better..

Soundstage

The midrange was gorgeous...it sounded delightful, with a smooth response, beautiful tonal reproduction, and lots of detail.

Hi-Fi+

While the Young presents a very powerful case for music at higher resolutions, making the best 24-bit recordings sound considerably superior to 16-bit, it regularly appeared to get more out of 16-bit than other DACs...In summary, the Young is an exceptional performer that truly punches above its weight. Even if you have no interest in high resolution music, it would be a mistake to leave this little gem off your list of DACs to audition.

Computer Audiophile

Even from first being plugged in it was apparent that the Young was a sound much closer to what I was looking for, it brought the sound of my digital front end towards the limpid clarity, ease of flow and fatigue free resolution that my vinyl rig provides... Where the Young steps out is in its USB input ability, offering a 384khz sampling rate ‘input’ that no other Async dac can yet match...The Young dac has provided me with the step up I was looking for and has leveled the playing field between my vinyl and digital front ends again, if anything I’m leaning towards the digital as having the edge, certainly with higher sample rate material- it really is that good...once you hear it I’m sure you’ll be amazed by the value for money it represents. It’s a keeper.

Digital Audio Blog

First impression was that it's a very easy DAC to like. Its midband is smooth and articulate, and essentially free of flatness and forwardness of lesser DACs. The treble is well integrated and the bass is more full-bodied than most DACs we have tried recently. The soundstage was very well-defined with excellent integration between the tonal ranges and the instruments. Imagery is handled very well where depths are fully painted-in...The Young is very a well-thought out device...Its flexibility immediacy, adaptability make it a DAC that is easy to listen to, and definitely easy for us to recommend.

Hi-Fi Choice

The first thing to make clear is that the sound is certainly of high-end breeding. We would have been most disappointed had it lacked anything significant in terms of resolution or neutrality and, indeed, it scored highly for both of those...It's actually exceptionally revealing and brought out details we had forgotten about in some of our own recordings...There's also something of an irony in the treble, which is beautifully pure and open, even with CD-format source material. That could somewhat undermine the case for high sampling rates, were it not for the fact that at 96kHz and upward it gets even better...This isn't the first 384kHz DAC, though it's the first affordable one. But kudos to M2Tech for doing it and huge respect and admiration for doing it so well.
