Synopsis
Toulon, 1815. Jean Valjean is the prisoner number 24601, sentenced to nineteen winters of hard labor for stealing a loaf of bread give food to a hungry nephew. Released following an amnesty try to rebuild their lives and dignity in the world, despite warnings and intimidation of Javert, upright prison warder convinced that a thief can only persist in evil. Converted to the good by the act of charitable Monsignor Myriel, Valjean becomes aware of his sins and to cleanse decide his fate, taking the name of Monsieur Madeleine. Mayor and entrepreneur enriched in Montreuil sur Mer, the man saves a girl from prison, promising to protect Cosette, her child, in the care of two robbers innkeepers. On the death of the woman rescues Cosette, becoming father and mother together. The years pass and Cosette grows as the obsession of Javert to Valjean, unmasked behind the mask of the gentleman.
