Album Notes - Blue Dawn by "Kamal"
For this late 1980s recording, Australian composer Kamal incorporates not only his trademark array of keyboards, but also a cornucopia of guitar and percussion effects. Also, on certain tracks, listeners will notice the use of animal sounds such as crickets and fluttering birds. This is used primarily on "All the Cuckoos Dancing in the Mango Trees." This dreamy composition overflows with cascading keyboards and pastoral nature effects. This piece is also marked by a soft drum backbeat and keyboard simulated double bass.Other compositions such as "The Wind and the Sea" and "Monsoon Over Babaluma" are entrancing works that feature, not surprisingly, water and wind effects. The latter begins with thunder, rain, and distant keyboard rumbles. A bleak offering, this piece evokes the harshness of a storm. Yet, it ultimately illuminates the splendor of nature (even when nature is at its most turbulent). Indeed, BLUE DAWN is a meditation on the earth itself. This album brings to life the magnificence of this planet and encourages listeners to reconnect with their terrestrial roots.
