Joseph Jongen (1[zasłonięte]873-19) is without question one of the most celebrated Belgian composers of his generation. A personality unhampered by foreign influence and the pressures of modernity, he dominated a line of musicians in the first half of the twentieth century that had evolved in the wake of their hero, the Liège-born composer César Franck (1[zasłonięte]822-18). Jongen’s great stylistic rigour, his originality and art of coloration ensure that his music need not pale in comparison with that of a Debussy, a Fauré or a Strauss. This new recording features the refined, elegant style of Jongen that plunges the listener into a dreamlike world and welds the instrumentalists in an atmosphere of communion and jubilation. Rediscover him in some of his most accomplished chamber music works, performed with dazzling technical mastery. This new disc in the Cypres catalogue joins four recordings already devoted to Joseph Jongen. On the horizon lies the possibility of a complete Joseph Jongen, or at any rate a collection of indispensable recordings, to which will soon be added the Symphonie concertante for organ and orchestra, recorded by the combined forces of the OPL and Olivier Latry. The Trio César Franck comprises Véronique Bogaerts, Marie Hallynck and Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden. These enthusiastic musicians, who are among the finest ambassadors of our culture, rediscover, in parallel with their traditional concert repertory, some of the treasures of the Belgian musical catalogue. Note that Marie Hallynck has already recorded for Cypres the concertos of Vieuxtemps (CYP4609) and Jongen’s Cello Concerto (CYP1634). DDD |
