"On February 23rd, 1964 Thelonious Monk and Bud Powell meet in Paris after having spent years without seing each other. Bud has come to get his friend at the airport… When Monk sees Bud, he just can't believe it, but Bud is already walking in his direction. They fall into each other's arms without saying a single word... This scene is the starting point of this album, one of the episodes that relate the life of these two mysterious geniuses : a Parisian crossroads, a hospital-prison… We recorded this album on February 22nd and 23rd, to celebrate Thelonious and Bud's new and special reunion, in the « Sound and Sound » studio. David Baker, who perfectly knows even the rarest compositions by Thelonious Monk and Bud Powell and who has a good mastery of the live recordings allowed us to work in the best conditions and in harmony with our group's colour and identity. In this album, we have continued and refined the work we had performed in sextet on our previous record ""Souls Calls"".

The stylistic composition we had then performed was aimed at releasing a sound full of cohesion (besides acclaimed by the press). In this new album, “Thelonious and Bud together again”, the strong, amusing, grave music of the two composers, their complementary playings and artworks, put us in a very different situation. The constraint of playing with such special styles became more than a challenge : a richness.
