Opis:

Includes;THE RARE BREED: In the 1880s, Englishwoman Martha Price (Maureen OHara) and her daughter Hilary (Juliet Mills) come to America to sell their prize Hereford bull at an auction. When he is purchased by Bowen, a wild Scotsman (Brian Keith), the women hire a footloose cowhand named Burnett (James Stewart) to help them transport the animal to its new owner. So begins an adventure that tests the mettle of all involved as they battle killers, cattle stampedesand each other. But when they reach Bowens ranch, even greater obstacles force them to summon up extraordinary courage if they, and the prize bull, are to survive.;SHENANDOAH: With the integrity and depth of an epic, Shenandoah tells the dramatic story of a man caught in a dilemma. James Stewart stars as a Virginia farmer during the Civil War. He refuses to support the Confederacy because he is opposed to slavery, yet he will not support the Union because he is deeply opposed to war. When his son is taken prisoner, Stewart goes to search for the boy. Seeing first-hand the horrors of war, he is at last forced to take his stand.;NIGHT PASSAGE: When the local railroad becomes the constant target of a band of desperadoes led by the notorious Whitey Harbin (Dan Duryea), train officials recruit soft-spoken but life-hardened employee Grant McLaine (Stewart) to guard the payroll from any more robberies. Trouble is, the gangs most skilled and lethal gunslinger, the Utica Kid (Audie Murphy), is Grants kid brother. Torn between the bonds of blood and his allegiance to the railroad, Grant finds himself hoping for the best but preparing for the worst as the train comes under attack from Harbins bandits, climaxing in an unforgettable gun battle as the brothers from opposite sides of the law meet again to settle an old score.;THE FAR COUNTRY: James Stewart and Walter Brennan are a loner and his sidekick who figure to get rich by selling a herd of cattle at a fancy priceduringthe wild gold rush days. They are soon caught up in a conflictwith the local lawman, John McIntire, and his henchmen;BEND OF THE RIVER: Man-with-a-past James Stewart guides a band of pioneers from Missouri over the Oregon Trail to a new life in the Columbia River Basin in this western adventure directed by Anthony Mann. When the settlers are cheated out of their supplies and cattle, Stewart crosses rivers, climbs mountains and out-guns greedy hijackers to ensure their survival through the first winter. Along the way, he is doublecrossed by ally Arthur Kennedy and assisted by handsome San Francisco gambler Rock Hudson and beautiful farmers daughter Julia Adams. Veteran entertainer Stepin Fetchit is featured as the riverboat cabin boy.;WINCHESTER 73: Its the legendary James Stewart at his leading-man finest in this timeless western that set the standard for all that followed. Frontiersman Lin McAdam (Stewart) is attempting to track down both his fathers murderer and his one-of-a-kind rifle, the Winchester 73, as it passes among a diverse group of desperate characters, including a crazed highwayman (Dan Duryea), an immoral gunrunner (John McIntire), a savage young Indian chief (Rock Hudson) and McAdams own murderous brother (Stephen McNally). Featuring Shelley Winters as the rifles only rival for McAdams interest and Tony Curtis in one of his first screen performances, the gripping tale of the men (and gun) who won the West is one of Stewarts most memorable films and one of the genres most enduring classics.;DESTRY RIDES AGAIN: A hilarious western send-up. As Destry, a mild-mannered deputy who doesnt like guns, James Stewart is called to restore order in the corrupt frontier town of Bottle Neck. He soon meets Frenchy (Dietrich), an alluring saloon girl and nothing will be the same!

James Stewart Westerns Box Set [7 DVD] (DVD);The films on this box set are are as below;1) The Rare Breed(66)Dir Andrew V McLaglen;2) Shenandoah(65)Dir Andrew V McLaglen;3) Night Passage(57)Dir James Neilson;4) The Far Country(55)Dir Anthony Mann;5) Bend of the River(52)Dir Anthony Mann;6) Winchester 73(50)Dir Anthony Mann;7) Destry Rides Again(39)Dir George Marshall; As with most box sets, there is some good inclusions, and some bad ones. In this case the good far outweighs the bad. I have already submitted positive in depth Amazon reviews of numbers 3,4,5 and 6, which you can of course have a look at, together with all the others. "Night Passage" is a very enjoyable and underrated western also starring Audie Murphy as Stewarts outlaw brother. "The Far Country", is a sentimental favourite of mine, and co stars Walter Brennan as Stewarts gold hunting partner in the Yukon. "Bend of the River" and "Winchester 73" are both strong westerns from that fine director of superior westerns Anthony Mann. "Destry Rides Again" is an earlier spoof western where Stewart plays a gunless milk drinking deputy sheriff. Marlene Dietrich trying to revive her career which was flagging at that time, reprises her bar room singer role from "The Blue Angel"(30), and gives us a memorable rendition of "See What the Boys in the Back Room will Have". It is much funnier than more recent cruder attempts to spoof the western like Mel Brooks "Blazing Saddles".;The Rare Breed" and "Shenandoah" are weaker films altogether. The first has Stewart battling to introduce Hereford cattle to the west. It is perhaps best remembered for Brian Keiths panto Scotsman, sporting the most outrageous red wig in movie history. Almost worth watching for that! "Shenandoah" is a better film but spoilt by being a bit too over sentimental. Stewart plays the folksy patriarch trying valiantly to keep his family together during the turmoil of the Civil War. It was certainly one of McLaglens better films, which sadly is not really saying a lot. Oddly enough, in 1974 it was very briefly transformed into a Broadway musical.;At the time of this review this set can be brought very reasonably indeed, and represents good value for money. It would have been nice to have also included "The Man from Laramie", but that is probably just nit picking! This is a stong box set on the whole. Recommended.
