Demo - Metal Archives [100%]:
Thrash and black metal have become immensely watered down over the years. The Big 4 sold their souls over two decades ago, and black metal became more for the kiddies at Hot Topic than the ones at Helvete. But, thankfully, there is hope in the underground. Bands who play like they hate humanity, and make truly black and evil metal. Otherwise known as the bands we should be thankful for. Infant Death are exactly what they sound like. A band from Norway who loves Slayer, Bathory, and touch of the 90's black metal from their motherland. It works, the formula that is. Play fast, wear black, and hail metal.
Musically, this is off the charts. It's so fast and schizophrenic it's hard to keep up, but at the same time it's incredible. Being just a demo, it's not very long, but it's effective. "Execution by Torture" opens with a drum beat so fast it hardly qualifies as blast beat and leads into a Slayer-esque breakdown. The vocals are extremely reminiscent of the Teutonic thrashers of the 80's (Sodom, Kreator, ya know the true big 4). Next track is "Violent Death", which is both violent and deadly. Riff wise it will immediately remind you of 80's thrash, which for me is an instant way to make me love you and your band. Frantic and energetic, it's bound to get heads banging and feet moving in the pit. After this comes, "Destruction and Death" which is the most black metal like track on the demo. Sounding like Mayhem on crack, it's speed alone is awe inspiring, but I really love the King Diamond like vocals at some points. Adds that other layer of old skool to this potpourri of an old schoolers wet dream. The last track is "Fornication of the Dead". Another 80's throwback, kind of Vio-Lence meets Tankard, it gets the job done. Certainly not a weak track on this demo. Completely and all around old school without being pretentious, it will inspire you to throw on your kutte and smash some posers.
In all, "Cursed To Damnation" not only makes me believe there is still "true" metal out there, it wholly makes me believe I am vindicated in still believing in the old school way of doing things. So grab your battle jackets, spiked wristbands, and listen to this album on repeat. Maybe than metal will get back to being what it used to be.
