Description:
The 4951A was the first of HP's compact portable protocol analyzers. A 256 KB tape drive provided a removable media option ($850) for the 4951A. The 4951A handled X.25, HDLC, SDLC (NRZI), BSC and most character asynchronous or synchronous protocols.
The 4951B replaced the 4941A in 1985. The 4951B handled additional protocols (SNA, X.21 and DDCMP). It also offered a higher capacity tape drive option (512 KB).
The 4951B was replaced by the 4951C and 4952A in 1986. Both new models handled Async, BSC, SDLC, HDLC, X.25 and SNA protocols. The 4951C also handled DDCMP, while the 4952A did not. The 4952A handled X.21 while the 4951C did not. Both new analyzers used a floppy dive (618 KB) for removable media.
