HIS HERO IS GONE "Monuments to Thieves" LP

His Hero Is Gone (often abbreviated HHIG) was an influential crust punk and sludge metal band from Memphis, Tennessee. Formed in 1995 from members of Copout, Man With Gun Lives Here, and FaceDown, they disbanded in 1999, playing their last show in Memphis. They toured the U.S. extensively several times, as well as Europe and Japan. They released a total of 6 records: Fifteen Counts of Arson,and Split EP. with Union of Uranus (limited edition of 1,000) which was the last recording completed with original band member Pat Davis, Monuments to Thieves debut of new guitarist Yannick Lorraine formerly of Union of Uranus from Canada,The Plot Sickens, and two 7" EPs The Dead of Night in Eight Movements and Fool's Gold as well as a 1995 Demo tape entitled Medicine of Thieves. Simultaenously or afterwards band members played in the bands Deathreat, Call The Police, Dimlaia, Warcry, Union of Uranus and more. The core of the band Todd Burdette, Paul Burdette, and Yannick Lorraine went on to form the hardcore punk band Tragedy. His Hero is Gone was characterized by heavily distorted "thick sounding" guitars, lyrics featuring social commentary much of which include anti-consumerist themes. The band and related projects have remained under the radar of a mainstream audience by not promoting themselves via tools of mass communication such as websites or larger music labels.

 "i saw these guys a little bit before this album came out right when yannick joined, they were awesome... too bad all this bullet belt, pseudo crusty, let's get the guy who recorded pearl jam to record us bullshit has taken over most of their lives and turned their post hhig projects into total making money crappy tunes vomit. onto the album, 1st track, one of the best starts of a hardcore album in the last 15 years.
   
A friend of mine called this a perfect hardcore record, and i can't disagree. This band assuredly belongs on the short list of great bands in modern music. A must own and a must love, at least for me anyway. It is really sad that they no longer are a band.
    
regardless of thier polotics, this lp is fucking awsome, crushingly brutal i like it a lot more then the bands these guys went off and started after his hero... check out wake up on fire if you dig this

wow. very heavy and dark and very very heavy. this record will crush you to bits. crusty sludgy chaoticHC which manages to be heavy extremely heavy and yet keep a true sense of melody. heavy dark slow parts are followed by crazy fast relentless crusty d-beat parts, the whole is very punishing and it's a real emotional experience to listen to this record in my opinion. very good political lyrics too. it's kinda hard to describe HHIG, coz they really have their own style of crust, that is often copied today by lots of bands who seldom achieved the same level of intensity and punishing power as HHIG. this must be a total classic which will please people into crust, HC, sludge or just apocalyptic music. top notch!!!!"
