Stan bardzo dobry minus.'Modern critics have tended to look on Gower as a man of his times, to praise him for his earnest involvement in the affairs of his day, but to deny him longevity of significance. Indeed, no English poet embodies as many qualities which we in retrospect would identify as crucial to medieval sensibility - keen social conscience, love of authority and tradition, philosophical pessimism; a fetish for analogy, encyclopedic lore, symmetry, and order, as well as aphorism, proverb, and sententiae; delight in stories almost for their own sake and pleasure in variety of narrative forms (allegory, fable, folklore, and biblical, classical, and historical modes); pleasure in wit, ludicrous incongruities, and the bizarre and grotesque. But these characteristics in no way deny him a voice in our own time. His words of wisdom and pleasure may offer a restorative for the twentieth century as well as for Chaucer's renaissance and Shakespeare's renaissance.' - from the PrefaceRUSSELL A.
