"Vocalion's first reissue was entitled "Geraldoland", and this CD occupies much the same territory, except that the focal point is the mid rather than the late thirties. Most of the tracks contain no brass section, reliance being placed instead on reeds and strings, and the result is a rich texture of sound. Geraldo employed more exotic rhythms than most of his contemporaries, which made a big impact at the time and still sound fresh today. This excellent compilation is the first reissue for all but four of the tracks, and impresses with the range of Geraldo's musical repertoire. The vocal honours are shared mainly between Cyril Grantham's understated light baritone and Monte Rey's operatic tenor, but listen out also for Al Bowlly's contribution. Remastering is exemplary, and the acoustic is spacious, giving a transparency of sound and making for effortless listening."
