This Anhology is for students who are preparing for the AQA GCSE English and / or English Literature (Specification A) examinations in 2008 and beyond.

This selection in this Anthology covers a range of poetry from different cultures (for use in English). It also covers a range of pre-1914 and post-1914 prose on which questions may also be answered in the English Literature examination.

The selection was made by AQA to exploit fully the various requirements and possibilities arising from the revised Key Stage 4 Programmes of Study as they appear in English in the National Curriculum (1999).

The selection attempts to engage readers beyond those who are being prepared for the AQA English / English Literature Specification A examinations. As such, it is hoped that this Anthology will help to encourage an informed and critical response to reading, with samples of poetry and prose which will both engage and stimulate.
