FALL SILENT "Drunken Violence" CD

After releasing the discography cd entitled "Six Years In The Desert" on Revelation in 2001, Fall Silent didn't waste anytime entering the studio to record their brand new release "Drunken Violence". Armed with their best songs yet and recorded by Eric Stenman (Deftones, Will Haven, Far, 7 Seconds), Fall Silent unleashes their best work yet. Early reviews of the record have compared the band to Malevolent Creation, Coalesce, Rorschach, and Crowbar with a strong hardcore foundation. Expect much more from this band in the future, they will not rest until everyone is aware.

As this album shows, Fall Silent stands apart from most of the other bands dealing in hardcore-metal hybrids at the turn of the 2000s, as the group's music is distinct from the discordant, angular roar of noisecore and the tight, compacted groove of metalcore (at least to the extent that those genre labels can be generalized in such a way). Instead, they seem more inspired by old Florida death metal and even crossover thrash/speed metal such as D.R.I., as far as the metal part of the equation goes. The punk aspect comes out in the overall attitude, in the lyrics (metal bands do not sing about scenester-ism and record collecting, as Fall Silent does here on "The First Seven Inch Club") and in Levi Watson's shrill, snotty vocals. In fact, his vocals are what will likely make or break this album for most people, as they're probably an acquired taste, and one that not everyone is going to be able to acquire -- parts of the album bring to mind the Beastie Boys' Mike D fronting Deicide, an incongruous mix. But setting aside the vocals, Fall Silent deserves credit for developing its own sound and putting together some musically solid tunes. ~ William York

Have you ever asked yourself "Where has all the metal gone"? Have you ever wondered what Refused would sound like if they stayed together to this day?
Ok, so maybe this doesn't exactly sound like what Refused would sound like if they were still together. Maybe it's just what I'd like for them to sound like had they stayed together and added more metal into their sound. Because, yes, Fall Silent is some what of a version of Refused with metal added in. They have that great kind of violent punk rock going on for them, but then with some above average metal mixed in. But, mainly, they are metal. Don't get me wrong.
"Drunken Violence" starts off with a song called, go figure, "Violence". It's actually more of an intro than a song, and you know, it's actually not an intro I skip over. It's got that great kind of Misfits/metal kind of intro to it. It fits the whole atmosphere of the CD very well. There are break downs, guitar riffs, everything you could imagine. Man, this CD has everything.
If you want to know what the hell these guys are singing about any way just listen to the first song, "Flowers for Whores". After you hear it a few times, you'll be singing along- "Flowers for whores, we smile cause we're unaffected". You'll notice when you hear the line "There's war and it's right outside your window" that it's all over and the mayhem will begin. But when you get to the end, pay attention to the last kind of verse: "You can't sell me creative expression. You can't show me the curves of real women. You can't give me midnight conversations. Cause the best things in life are not things".
So here's a great band that I'm just going to generalize as being metal and say that instead of having lyrics about really much of nothing they have some content. I think most people would agree with me, too, that content is important.
Chalk another one up for Revelation, they're on a roll.
