Life can be funny. Sometimes life needs to be
funny. Sometimes we need a guide to point out to us when
something is funny. Jeff Burton has written this
guidebook of short poetry that turns the world on its
edge and shakes it a bit until the absurdity falls out.
These short poems cover a broad range of topics but Jeff
warns there is often a cynical aftertaste brought on by
his being a 57 year old male prone to irritation. There
is wonder here too, and a naive simplicity that is
refreshing. Jeff's years as a teacher have conditioned
him to what makes children laugh and these poems can be
enjoyed by all ages. Fans of Woody Allen and Spike
Milligan will be rewarded. A sample: Napoleon's Hat On a
dusty shelf somewhere Between Marconi's underpants And a
lock of Shakespeare's hair, But savage dreams of empire
Still linger in its brim And it mourns its former owner
And keenly misses him, For Napoleon grew downwards From
his hat down to the ground, And served as locomotion For
his hat to get around.
