For over twenty years Denise Robertson has appeared on television alongside the likes of Richard and Judy, Fern Britton and Phillip Schofield, Paul O'Grady, Jerry Springer, Damien Lewis, JohnCulshaw, Dave O'Gorman, Princess Diana and a host of others. George Michael called her a diamond, newspapers hailed her common sense and millions read her novels. She has nightclubbed with Springer in Chicago, went to Africa to see what could be done about Aids and spent nights on the streets of Britain's cities in an effort to help the homeless. All this time she was privvy to the confidences of hundreds of thousands of people who write to her, confessing secrets and asking for advice on every conceivable problem. Few realise that Denise's own life has been a rollercoaster ride. A turbulent childhood saw her father bankrupt and the family out on the street.Widowed twice, she has lost the roof over her head, been stalked by a psychopath, experienced a breakdown which needed Pentothal to cure it and suffered such financial privation that on one occasion she was left with no choice but to feed her children with meat intended for their dog.Throughout all this personal tragedy Denise has never allowed life to get the better of her. Somehow she has managed to see through the bad times and reach through them. This is her own inspirational story. It is the triumph of hope over reality.
