Trumpeter Daniel Schenker, leader of an excellent quartet, had the brilliant idea to invite US-tenor saxophonist Chris Cheek to join his band for a short tour and this live-recording at the renowned jazz club “moods” in Zurich. The outcome of this album is spectacular. Schenker is one of the most appealing and exciting jazz trumpet players in Switzerland, his extremely melodic approach towards the album’s material and especially his own complex and well conceived compositions is surprising, logical, in parts very lyrical and at all times most interesting to follow. His tone is firm, yet fragile and demands attentive listening. Here is a trumpet player with much to play and a lot to say, technically and musically covering a lot of ground with a wonderful sense of balance and beauty.
