Following
the success of our
established gunsmith engraving limited editions; the Balmoral and
Windsor, Conway Stewart is pleased to announce the third in our
prestigious
series: the Sandringham.
Inspired by the ornate
decoration gracing the creations of English gunsmiths, the Sandringham is hand
engraved by master engraver Marcus Hunt, who is considered by many to be one of
England's premier engravers.
It takes
many hours to meticulously hand engrave each Sandringham limited edition
fountain pen. Particular attention to detail is made on the cap stopper, cap
band, barrel end and the decorated band on the gripping section featuring the
signature of Marcus Hunt and the individual limited edition number of each
Sandringham pen.
The Sandringham is created from sterling silver and is based on the Duro model,
Conway Stewart's award winning design triumph.
Crafted from rods of solid sterling silver and
complemented with a hand applied translucent classic green resin veneer, this
Sterling Silver Duro is an unique celebration of colour, design and quality
British craftsmanship. Conway Stewart is the only international pen company
creating this type of overlay on precious metal.
Under the bright glowing acrylic overlay, the
Sterling Duro is a carefully constructed fine writing instrument. Cap and barrel
are crafted from solid sterling silver rod stock, adding perfectly balanced
weight to the pen itself.
The cap top, cap band and barrel end are
meticulously engraved by master engraver Marcus Hunt, further accented by a
silver pocket clip in the classic and stately design that has graced Conway
Stewart writing instruments since the 1930s.
When you remove the cap, you unveil a gleaming
solid sterling silver hand engraved section graced with a two tone 18 carat
solid gold nib. The 18 carat solid gold nib is available in a choice of eight
grades, from Extra Fine to Extra Broad, Italic Fine, Italic Medium and Italic
Broad.
The solid sterling silver section brings the
weight of the pen forward in the hand, ensuring perfect balance when writing.
Setting pen to paper is transformed from an everyday chore into an elegant event
with the Sandringham Limited Edition!
Marcus Hunt is a second generation master engraver and is recognized as
providing the highest standard of hand engraving on the worlds finest sporting
shotguns and rifles for over 30 years. Marcus has many high-profile clients some
of which include members of the British Royal family, Her Majesty Queen
Elizabeth II and even successful rock stars like Eric Clapton.
Marcus painstakingly learned the traditional
engraving methods from world famous engraver Ken Hunt, when working at James
Purdey & Son alongside the legendary engraver, Harry Kell.
James Purdey & Sons have built a reputation as
makers of some of the finest firearms throughout the world since 1814 and
supplying many of the world's most distinguished and discerning people including
the British Royal Family. Marcus' father's inlays and engravings command a
bespoke price more than $90,000 in addition to the Purdey's shotgun value.
Following his father's passion and gift for
engraving, Marcus gradually mastered the act of carefully gliding the graver
through steel by hand and the gentle rhythms of hammer and chisel work. He also
learned many techniques that his father had developed over the years as well as
gold inlay and damascene. Always though, his father would emphasize the
importance of quality workmanship.
In addition to the work created on rifles and shotguns, Marcus' engravings can
also be acquired on bespoke Rolex watches retailing $16,000 and more depending
on the detail of engraving and inlays of solid gold.
Marcus is committed to the continuing excellence
of the traditional English style of embellishment and its evolution into new
forms which has resulted in the exciting working collaboration with Conway
Stewart, creating the finest British made writing instruments with traditional
engraving designs.
The Sandringham is labour intensive to hand
engrave and Conway Stewart is launching this magnificent work of art in an
exclusive edition of just 15 fountain pens world-wide.
Housed in the Conway Stewart luxury gift
presentation packaging, the Sandringham is available in a choice of eight solid
18 carat gold nibs: Extra Fine to Extra Broad, Italic Fine, Italic Medium and
Italic Broad. Filling is through the convenient converter cartridge system.
Conway Stewart anticipates the Sandringham to sell
out very quickly and to be placed proudly in any pen collection as well as
become a future family heirloom.
