Flying high off its smash first year, and in damage-control mode after Farah Fawcett's legally disputed departure for greener pastures, Charlie's Angels opened its second season in September 1977 with a hunt for Charlie (John Forsythe) himself. The two-part episode finds the toothsome threesome from the Charles Townsend Detective Agency -- and their curiously neutered chaperone, Bosley (David Doyle) -- in Hawaii, where local mobsters have taken Mr. Townsend hostage. The Angels spring into action, and swimwear, in desperate pursuit of their disembodied employer, who still manages to avoid appearing on camera, even after they save him. Cheryl Ladd, portraying Kris Munroe (a sister to Fawcett's departed character), proves a naďve-yet-plucky protégé for seasoned crime fighters Sabrina Duncan (Kate Jackson) and Kelly Garrett (Jaclyn Smith). Aside from the noteworthy character change, executive producer Aaron Spelling didn't futz with the potent weekly formula of minor mystery, unmatched cheesecake, and male comeuppance. The bad guys, after all, were usually guys, and they never failed to underestimate the formidable Townsend trio. Familiar faces popping up in Season 2 include: comic actors Phil Silvers and Jim Backus in "Angels on Ice"; James Darren in "Circus of Terror"; Gene Barry and Shani Wallis in "Angels in the Wings"; Sammy Davis Jr. in "The Sammy Davis Jr. Kidnap Caper"; Vincent Schiavelli in "Angel Blues"; Dirk Benedict and Barry Bostwick in "The Jade Trap"; and Craig T. Nelson and Bill Duke in "Angels on the Run." Barnes & Noble
