Opis:
In Ay, Carmela, filmmaker Carlos Saura again harks back to his bitter childhood memories of the Spanish Civil War. Carmela (Carmen Maura), Paulino (Andres Pajares) and Gustavete (Gabino Diego) are travelling entertainers, trouping through Spain to perform their act before the Republican troops. Early one morning, the three artistes find themselves in Franco-controlled territory. In mute terror, the captive entertainers witness the deaths of several innocents at the hands of the fascists. Then they are forced to do a show for their captors. Swallowing their pride and hiding their disgust, the entertainers agree to do so. But Carmela is unable to go through with this humiliation: before an assembly a Francoites, she defiantly sings a paean to the Loyalist cause...and in so doing, achieves martyrdom. Carlos Saura´s wonderful take on the Spanish Civil War follows the fortunes of two travelling performances and the deaf and dumb young man they have taken under their wing. Having fallen into the hands of Franco´s Nationalist troops they are forced to entertain them to survive, but ultimately are unable to hide their true feelings about the brutality which surrounds them.. Paulino and Carmela are husband and wife, troubadours touring the countryside during the Spanish Civil War. They are Republicans, and with their mute assistant, Gustavete, they journey into rebel territory by mistake. They are arrested, fear a firing squad, and receive a reprieve from an Italian Fascist commander who loves the theatre. He arranges a performance for his troops, bargaining with Paulino to stage a burlesque of the republic in exchange for the actors' freedom. Will the fiery and patriotic Carmela consent?
Akcja toczy się na froncie hiszpańskiej wojny domowej. Carmela, Paulino i niemy Gustavete tworzą wędrowną trupę aktorów, która zabawia swoimi występami żołnierzy republikańskich. Tymczasem frankistów prowadzą zaciekłą ofensywę i zdobywają przewagę. Carmela i Paulino postawiają uciekać. Na samym początku podróży aktorzy trafiają na teren opanowany przez frankistów i trafiają do niewoli. W prowizorycznym areszcie spotykają jeńców z Brygad Międzynarodowych, w tym polskiego majora, który robi duże wrażenie na Carmeli. [filmweb.pl]
