Two men. How you picture them may well influence how you understand their music. How you hear them will tell you a lot about who they are. Picture the pianist, as he suggests himself, digging out rocks with his father, busking for the passers-by. Old snapshots, faded and cracked, but they tell a great deal and so do those names; Bergman and Coxhill.

It is never explained why the ten pieces here are labeled as “Acts of Love” (numbered 101 to 110). Love is a slippery beast, coming in many forms, now passionate, now poignant, now pathetic. So it is with these improvised pieces; they range in length from two to ten minutes, but they range far more in the mood and emotional landscape they create. In that, they are well named.
