Dream On by Bali Rai

Paperback92 pages

his book is very interesting as it is based on reality. Bali Rai creates a tale about a young boy who can’t play football because his dad doesn’t want him to. He sneaks off to a football trail telling his parents that he is going on a school trip.

The story begins with Baljit working at his dads chippy where he is explaining his dream about becoming a professional footballer. However, his dad does not agree and wants Baljit to become something useful in life. Baljit works at the chippy after school and so does not get time to go out with his friends. He is used to being in the situation where others are shouting racist remarks at him and he cannot do anything about it. Some lads also act violently towards Baljit and his two best mates – David and Mo because they are a different colour. Baljit has always wanted to play for Liverpool but knows while his dad is there this dream will not come true. So he decides to sneek off to a football trail by lying to his parents and saying that he has to attend a science trip in London. Baljit gets accepted and tells his parents the truth. His parents are proud of their son and so let him continue his football career.

Hannah is the prettiest girl in school and everyone dies to go out with her. Baljit is one of those boys whose asked her out more than once. However, Hannah’s answer is always no. The reason behind this is because she is seeing someone else. Near the end of the story Hannah decides to tell Baljit that she fancies him and so they both go out.

I think this book was funny and enjoyable and would recommend people to read it.
