Since I now live in Virginia, USA, this autobiography had a special appeal for me and made me feel very nostalgic for my hometown, Sunderland, in the North East of England. The author attended Bede High School, as I did, all those many years ago, although she is a couple of years younger than I am, I do remember her very clearly.
I found the story of her life very interesting - although she had some hard years and sad times, she still kept on going and became very successful in a most interesting career. She has a wonderful way of writing which really paints a vivid picture of life in the North East. I was inspired by this book to order several of her novels which I am enjoying.
