All good things, as they say, must come to an end, and unfortunately fans had to say goodbye to the wonderful Arrested Development with Season 3. Though the show was adored by critics, too few viewers were ready to embrace a comedy lacking both a laugh track and typical sitcom plots. And despite initial thoughts of bringing the series to one of the cable networks, creator Mitch Hurwitz decided to simply end it all. It's a pity, because Arrested was easily one of the most irreverent -- and hysterically funny -- comedies on television. During this final season, Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) continues to battle his own family in order to save the Bluth business. George Bluth Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor) is out of prison, but only because he set up his twin brother, Oscar, (also Tambor) to stay inside instead. Matriarch Lucille (Jessica Walter), still perpetually drunk and caustic, rules her children with an iron fist, especially Buster (Tony Hale), who's out of the army and living life one-handed after the unfortunate seal attack of the previous season. Brother Gob (Will Arnett) is consistent with his spectacular failures at just about everything he attempts in life, from running a new Bluth frozen banana stand (20 feet away from the original) to performing his Christian magic act -- in the middle of downtown Baghdad. Michael's sister, Lindsay (Portia de Rossi), continues her on-again, off-again relationship with husband Tobias (David Cross), whose homoerotic verbal slips are a constant source of entertainment, especially his insistence that his psychology talents are a combination of the words "analyst" and "therapist." And Michael's son, George Michael (Michael Cera), is still flustered over his desire for cousin Maeby (Alia Shawkat). By season's end, there's a lovely resolution to the entire Bluth business-in-crisis story line that includes the CIA, secret Iraqi tract homes, the British, and a certain member of the Bluth clan that pulled it all together. We're sad to see it go, but Arrested Development certainly went out at the top of its game; and this generously packed DVD (three commentaries, plus deleted scenes, etc.) helps ease the pain.
