Po raz pierwszy audycja "A State Of Trance" pojawiła się w radiu ID&T w marcu 2001 roku. Cotygodniowe show DJ'a Armina Van Buurena, w którym prezentuje najnowsze produkcje ze świata muzyki elektronicznej przyniosło mu międzynarodowy rozgłos i wielką popularność. Pomimo tego, że w ciągu ostatnich 12 lat audycja przeszła wiele zmian, to wciąż zachowała swój klimat i wyjątkowość.

Od 2009 roku odbywa się wielkie tournée celebrujące kolejny 50 epizod kultowej już audycji. Rok 2013 to okrągła liczba 600 i aż 11 lokalizacji, od Meksyku przez Brazylię, Bułgarię po USA i Holandię.
