Every version of this classic arrives with something special. Richard Hartley includes the kitchen sink in an orchestral stew-up of bold gesturing to both follow and lampoon the other-worldy adventures. Bell tree glissandi sweep in pronouncement of a magical happenstance;lyrical flute melodies flutter beneath Alice's feet as she encounters the land's "Sweeter" sides. There's an "Oirish" jig or two, parade ground pomp for the Queen's snooty posturing, Indian affectations, and some rumbling cello and oboe combinations that almost sound like danger's ahead (of course it never is).
