I first read this book a number of years ago. It is an excellent read. Gives a lot of background to the Somme planning and why it failed with dreadful casualties. Some of the battle descriptions are really good. Might be too academic for some tastes, but the narrative flows beautifully. Gives a good account of the Flers/Courcelette battle of 15th September; but it omits quite a lot of the final Ancre battles of November. Nevertheless, it remains one of the outstanding books on the Somme of 1916. Wydawnictwo Pan.Str.269.Stan książki bardzo dobry.
