This is the twelfth volume of The Adventures of Tintin, the comics series by Belgian cartoonist Hergé. Tintin and Captain Haddock believe that the treasure of pirate Red Rackham is in the remains of the sunken ship, the Unicorn, and they launch an expedition to find it.
The story was first serialized in Le Soir Jeunesse, children's supplement to Belgium's leading newspaper Le Soir, from 19 February 1943 to 23 September 1943 before being published in book form the following year. Red Rackham's Treasure is the second volume in a two-part adventure begun in The Secret of the Unicorn (1943).
The book is notable for its introduction of main character Professor Calculus. It is the best-selling book in the Tintin series.
"The Seven Crystal Balls" (wyd. polskie Siedem Kryształowych Kul)
This is the thirteenth volume of The Adventures of Tintin, the comics series by Belgian cartoonist Hergé. The strange Incan mummy Rascar Capac seems to be at the centre of a mysterious illness, and an intriguing clue is discovered near each victim: shards of crystal balls. Tintin and his friend Captain Haddock set off to rescue the kidnapped Professor Calculus.
The story was first serialized in Le Soir Jeunesse, children's supplement to Belgium's leading newspaper Le Soir, from 16 December 1943 to 3 Sept 1944 but was postponed three-quarters through its serialization. World War II had ended, Belgium had been liberated, and Hergé and other members of the Le Soir were being investigated for working for a collaborationist newspaper. Four years later, in 1948, it was published in book form. The Seven Crystal Balls is the first volume in a two-part adventure concluded in Prisoners of the Sun (1949).
"Prisoners of the Sun" (wyd. polskie Świątynia Słońca)
This is the fourteenth volume of The Adventures of Tintin, the comics series by Belgian cartoonist Hergé. Tintin and his friend Captain Haddock continue their efforts to rescue the kidnapped Professor Calculus, through Andean villages, mountains, and rain forests, before finding a hidden Inca civilization in the Temple of the Sun.
The story was first serialized in Tintin magazine from 26 September 1946 to 22 April 1948 before being published in book form the following year. Prisoners of the Sun is the second volume in a two-part adventure begun in The Seven Crystal Balls (1948). The two books were adapted into a 1969 film, Tintin and the Temple of the Sun by Belvision. It has been also adapted into two episodes of the 1990s television series The Adventures of Tintin, a video game, and a musical stage production.
About the Author
Georges Prosper Remi (22 May 1907 - 3 March 1983), known by the pen name Hergé, was a Belgian cartoonist. His best known and most substantial work is the 23 completed comic books in The Adventures of Tintin series, which he made from 1929 until his death in 1983. He was also responsible for two other well-known series, Quick & Flupke (1930-40) and Jo, Zette and Jocko (1936-57). His works were executed in his distinct ligne claire drawing style.
