Kim Hunter and Karl Malden, both of whom appeared in the stage version, also won Oscars for their superb supporting performances. Although filmed entirely on sets, no movie has ever captured the sultry, decaying atmosphere of New Orleans's French Quarter as potently as this classic (it also won the 1951 Oscar for Art Direction).
