Dr V. R. Jagannathan is the author of Hindi ki Adharbhut Shabdavali (C.I.H., 1966), a pioneering attempt at compiling a basic Hindi vocabulary; Hindi aur Tamil ki Samansrotiya-Bhinnarthi Shabdavali (1969), a comparative study of Hindi and Tamil vocabulary; Spoken Hindi: A Microwave Approach (Bahri, 1973), an important contribution in the field of language teaching; and the first two parts of Gahan Hindi Shikshana (OUP, 1973 and 1976), an intensive Hindi course prepared by the Central Institute of Hindi. He has edited all the four parts of this series.

Dr Jagannathan is a Professor in the Central Institute of Hindi and currently heads its Delhi centre.
